Xiaomi plans to produce its new SoC according to the norms of 16 nm

In late February, the company Xiaomi has announced a single-chip system of its own design, which was called Xiaomi Surge S1. The first smartphone with the new SoC has become Xiaomi Mi 5C.

Xiaomi Surge S1 received two clusters, in each of which there are four Cortex-A53, operating at a frequency up to 2.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz respectively. System-on-chip is made on 28-nanometer process technology HPC+.

Even before the announcement there were rumors that closer to the end of the year, Xiaomi will unveil a new version of its system on a chip for premium smartphones that will be produced using 10-nanometer process technology. However, due to difficulties that arose during the development of this process, the company decided to produce a new SoC using TSMC according to the norms of 16 nm.

Presumably, the new OCTA-core SoC will be launched in mass production in the third quarter and the first smartphone with this single chip system will be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
