US authorities ask smartphone manufacturers to create a «driving mode» to improve road safety
Smartphones have already received intended for use in cars Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and optimized for this scenario, the user interface.
However, National management of safety of traffic on the highways of the United States (U.S. Department of Transportation»s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; NHTSA) argues that the distraction of drivers in the use of smartphone and multimedia car system is one of the main causes of road accidents.
In this regard, the office suggested that the smartphone manufacturers to create better interfaces between smartphones and multimedia systems of cars, and, most importantly, to come up with a «driving mode». This is a much simplified user interface, which includes the minimum amount of information needed in a given time. As a result, this should allow the driver to be distracted as little as possible and focus your attention on the road.
In this mode, there should be no possibility of manual entering text with the onscreen keyboard, control the playback of multimedia content on the screen should not be too much text. To use the web browser and social networks in the process of moving will not be.
However, at the moment all this is not a law, but merely a wish that puts the National Directorate of traffic safety on highways of the USA manufacturers.
