Toshiba will prepare the site to expand production of flash memory in Kitakami
Toshiba has announced that its subsidiary Toshiba Memory Corporation (TMC) has chosen the city of Kitakami in Iwate Prefecture to host the new production of the chips flash memory. The company TMC has already started site preparation.
The manufacturer expects that demand for flash memory will continue to grow. Currently, TMC produces flash memory in the enterprise in the city of Yokkaichi in mie Prefecture.
According to TMC, Kitakami is more suitable for further expansion of production, since there was already begun site preparation and recruitment. The training plan provides for the additional purchase of adjacent land and approval for the construction of buildings with local authorities. Actual construction should begin in 2018. Accurate the construction schedule and funding for equipment will be determined taking into account a variety of factors, including the situation on the market. In addition, TMC is discussing with the SanDisk its participation in the project.
