The third-largest contract manufacturer of laptops does not believe in their future
Last year, the notebook market declined by 5%. During the year we shipped about 150 million of these devices. According to analysts, this year the volume of supply will again decrease, but not so much so that it is possible to speak about stabilization of the market.
However reason to hope for the resumption of growth is not — so says Simon liying (Simon Lin), Chairman of the Board of Directors Wistron — the company is the third-largest contract manufacturer of laptops in the world. Last year capacities of Wistron were collected 19.4 million laptops.
According to Lina, the industry is experiencing a crisis, which was caused by stagnation. The absence in recent years, the progress previously performed by joint efforts of Intel and Microsoft, led to a drop in demand. In the future, the value of laptops will be increasingly reduced under pressure from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, which are developing more dynamically.
A shrinking market will increase the share of large manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP and Dell. As a result, the advantage will be given to their manufacturing partners Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics. This means that smaller companies, including Wistron, Inventec and Pegatron, now need to shift the focus to other segments. Therefore, Wistron decided not to participate this year in tenders for orders for the Assembly of notebooks for Acer and Asustek.
