The reference platform Qualcomm Snapdragon VR820 designed for VR headsets

Qualcomm introduced at IFA 2016 reference platform for VR headsets. The platform, dubbed Qualcomm Snapdragon VR820, serves SOC Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. Reportedly, Snapdragon VR820 will allow manufacturers who are OEM to quickly develop wearable displays (HMD), optimized for the task of virtual reality.


Partner in the development of Qualcomm Snapdragon VR820 was the company Goertek. The platform includes two cameras to track the movement of user’s eyes, two front-facing camera to track movements and augmented reality applications, four microphones, a gyroscope, an accelerator and a magnetometer. Developers available software package Snapdragon VR Software Development Kit (SDK). The platform’s ability to display the stereoscopic image on the AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1440×1440 pixels for each eye with the refresh rate to 70 Hz. Supported panoramic 4K video with a viewing angle of 360° and a compression standard HEVC.

Delivery will begin in the fourth quarter, then you can count on the appearance on the market of serial products based on it.
