The cost of DRAM memory will continue to grow

TrendForce analysts argue that contract prices for DRAM continue to grow. Within a month, the cost of the memory module 4 GB increased by 2.86% to $18. Data are shown for the United States at the end of November.

If we talk about chips, the spot prices for DDR3 and DDR4 increased by 6% and 2% — to $2.6 and $2,53, respectively. The increase in prices explain the increasing demand for these products, as well as training of producers and sellers for the Christmas season.

Analysts believe that by the end of the first quarter of 2017, the cost of the module 4 GB will rise to $20. Moreover, to expect lower prices in the near future is not necessary. Despite seasonal factors in early 2017, oligopoly Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron will continue to have a strong impact on the market.

Also next year we can expect a substantial increase in the average RAM in a PC. This is due to the mass transition to 20-nanometer rules and the fact that the main product will be a chip with a volume of 8 GB.
