Started production of controllers Silicon Motion SM2262EN, SM2262, SM2263 and SM2263XT designed for SSDS that support NVMe 1.3

Some time ago, Silicon Motion announced the release of several models of controllers for SSDs. The list of novelties includes controllers SM2262EN, SM2262, SM2263 and SM2263XT.

Interestingly, a press release, on their release, were published on the manufacturer’s website only last week, although the model SM2246EN was available to partners Silicon Motion back in January, and controllers SM2262 and SM2263XT was shown at Computex in June 2017. Then the manufacturer has promised to begin production in the third quarter. In other words, the current message, in fact, confirms the start of serial production of the listed products.

To the General features of controllers SM2262EN, SM2262, SM2263 and SM2263XT include a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface and support NVMe Protocol 1.3. The first two models feature eight channels for connection of NAND flash memory.

SM2262 controller delivers transfer speeds sequential read up to 3200 MB/s, sequential write — up to 1900 MB/s. SM2262EN Controller delivers transfer speeds sequential read up to 3500 MB/s, sequential write — up to 3000 MB/s. For both models the performance declared in read mode random access 370 000 IOPS in recording mode — 300 000 IOPS.

Model SM2263 and SM2263XT — channel. Feature SM2263XT is working without the cache DRAM. Instead, the controller can be requested exclusive access to the area of main memory for caching (a feature of the Host Memory Buffer or HMB).

Controllers SM2263 and SM2263XT provide transfer speed sequential read and 2,400 MB/s, sequential write up to 1700 MB/s. Performance SM2263 in read mode random access reaches 300,000 IOPS. Controller SM2263XT shows performance in read mode random access to 280,000 IOPS (HMB) or 140,000 IOPS (no HMB). In record mode, both controllers provide the best possible performance of 250,000 IOPS.
