SMIC starts to develop 7-nanometer technology this year
Chinese contract manufacturer of semiconductor products Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC) plans to begin development of a 7-nanometer technology this year. This was reported by a source, citing the words of the General Director of the company.
Allegedly, SMIC in recent years allocated to R & d 12-13% of revenue. Capital investments in the past year approached $ 2.7 billion, which significantly exceeds the figures of the previous periods.
In the development of advanced process technologies, SMIC relies on the help of Huawei and the Institute Imec. In addition, the company cooperates with suppliers of development tools integrated circuits, including Brite Semiconductor, Cadence Design Systems, Synopsys, ARM, and Mentor Graphics, as well as with manufacturers of equipment and materials, such as Applied Materials, Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC), ASML, Shin-Etsu Handotai and Sumco.
