Samsung working on a Gear VR 2, and a competitor to Microsoft HoloLens
Vice President of Samsung Electronics sung-Hoon Hong (Sung-Hoon Hong) confirmed that the company is working on the successors of a simple virtual reality headset Samsung Gear VR.
In the near future, the light should see the helmet Gear VR 2, but the experiments are not over. According to him, Samsung is also working on a competitor to Microsoft HoloLens, which will be an advanced augmented reality device.
Formally, Samsung has already released two versions of Samsung Gear VR, however, both belong to the first generation of this device. First out in 2015 to support new owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. A second followed this year, it was created with the participation of Oculus received minor improvements, in particular, the USB connector-C to connect the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7. Presumably, the new headset (the Gear VR 2) will be released in the spring of 2017 along with the Galaxy S8.
As for the future of devices (call it VR Gear 3, though the final name will probably be different), Samsung has already created technology that allows you to play incredibly realistic hologram.
