Samsung stops production of a small TV of 20-30 inches diagonal

As it became known that the company Samsung Electronics plans to stop production of small TVs, focusing on the premium segment of the market.

«Samsung will phase out production of TVs with a diagonal of about 20-30 inches with HD resolution and full HD» — quoted the official representative of Samsung the South Korean newspaper JoongAng Ilbo.

In the foreseeable future Samsung will only reduce the amount of this product, but don’t stop its release completely. Gradually, however, the focus will shift towards larger models with a diagonal of 60 inches with a 4K resolution.

The share of Samsung in the premium segment TVs cost from $ 2,500 reduced the last couple of years. Last year it decreased to 23.4 54.7%, and in the second quarter of this year fell to 17% (data from market research company IHS, Markit).

While LG has strengthened its position over the year, from 21.3 to 40.8%, but in the second quarter, the share of LG dropped to 33.5%. Although this is still twice more than the Samsung.

Samsung needs to start selling TVs with 4K resolution, which will be used by LG displays in the beginning of next year.
