Sales of Ethernet switches in 2016 reached 24.4 billion dollars

Experts of the analytical company IDC has summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2016 and the year as a whole in the markets of the Ethernet switch (Layer 2/3), and routers in an enterprise level. The report said that sales of switches in the fourth quarter of 2016 amounted to 6.7 billion dollars. This is 3.5% more than in the fourth quarter of 2015. For all of 2016 Ethernet switches were sold in the amount of 24.4 billion dollars, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year.

Sales of routers in an enterprise level for the quarter amounted to 3,87 billion dollars, increasing by 1.5%. For all 2016 devices in this category were sold at 14.58 billion dollars. This is 1.3% more than in 2015.

The market leader in Ethernet switches left Cisco, but its share for the year decreased from 59.1% to 55.6%. The share of second-ranked Huawei is 7.0%. In third place is HP with a share of 5.0%. The top five also includes companies Arista Networks and Juniper.
