Represented ZTE Axon M — folding smartphone with two screens, one camera and a weight of 230 g

Company ZTE has introduced probably the most unusual smartphone in recent years. The model is called the Axon, and M is a «horizontal clamshell».

As you can see in the photo and video screens are installed outside. This means that the device will have to handle carefully, because the chances to damage any display is twice more than in the case of conventional smartphones.

Let’s start with the technical parameters. Both screens have a diagonal of 5.2 inches and Full HD resolution. Both Gorilla glass 5. Heart is SoC Snapdragon 821. Why not chose ZTE Snapdragon 835 is unknown, but it hardly is of particular importance given the positioning of Axon M.

Operational and flash memory device 4 and 64 GB respectively. Camera smartphone one — a resolution of 20 megapixels with a maximum aperture of F/1.8. The battery capacity of 3180 mAh when using both displays, this obviously is not enough for continuous operation.

You can also note the USB-C port, headphone port (the time has come when this should be prescribed separately) and the dimensions 150,8 x 71,6 x 12.1 mm and weight 230 g. Works Axon M running Android 7.1.2.

In the folded state the second display is deactivated so that the device can be used in the usual way. In an open frame between the screens, as we see, remain highly visible to spoil the experience of playing games or watching movies. However, it is worth noting that the frame interferes if the game displayed on both monitors. But Axon M is the mode in which one of the displays displays only the control buttons, and that such a scenario could someone approach.

Table mode allows you to watch any video more people (or sitting in front), so both screens show the same picture. ZTE separately created the M button to switch between modes: single display, mirrored display, independent display and unified picture.

In sale the novelty will appear next year at a price of 725 dollars exclusively at the American operator AT&T. Axon M — clearly a conceptual product which will be sold in extremely small volumes. Actually it is not very clear why ZTE has released such a device because it is too specific for the average consumer, has many compromises, and is not a platform for testing new technologies. On the other hand, at a time when the only design innovation in the smartphone market (wide screens) is actually not new, but only a mass incarnation of the old ideas (remember the Acer Iconia Smart), Axon M has a right to exist just because he is different.
