Presented OS Synology DiskStation Manager 6.1

Synology has introduced a new version of the operating system DiskStation Manager (DSM) for its network storage. Allegedly, DSM 6.1 and accompanying software packages will improve safety, performance and versatility of the Synology NAS.

The advantages of the new version include the Active Directory Server package that turns your Synology NAS into the domain controller, allowing to optimize maintenance by automatically installing a particular software or system upgrades on all computers of employees.

6.1 DSM uses a file system next-generation Btrfs, which allows you to use enhanced data protection technology and redundant data on the server side using the SMB Protocol. The encrypting shared folders and auto-mounting the encrypted folder using the USB drive without the need of entering the key.

An interesting feature is the Seagate IronWolf Health Management (IHM) is a tool for monitoring the status of hard drives Seagate and IronWolf IronWolf Pro installed in your Synology NAS. Integration is the result of a partnership agreement with Seagate.

In addition, it is possible to note a new application to share, search and organize data Synology Universal Search and Copy USB 2.0, improved packages Snapshot Replication, Hyper Backup, Synology High Availability and Virtual DSM Manager.

Synology DSM update 6.1 is available for the vault series DiskStation, RackStation, FlashStation or Embedded DataStation, starting with the 11-series. Full list of supported models are listed on the website of the manufacturer.
