Plextor S2 — entry-level SSD in sizes of 2.5 inch and M. 2

Range of solid state drives Plextor manufactured by Lite-On Storage, was added to the line S2. Part of a series entered as a model in the body size 2.5 inches thickness 7 mm (S2C) and M. 2 with a length of 80 mm (S2G). The new SSD is positioned as entry-level solutions and are accompanied by the slogan «My first SSD».

A set of components Plextor S2 is similar to the feature set Intel SSD Series 540s: the controller uses a Silicon Motion SM2258 and manufacturer of 16-nanometer TLC memory made by SK Hynix. Also, each drive has SLC memory (for 1.5 GB for each 128 GB of memory TLC) and buffer DDR3 (256 MB is the storage capacity of 128 GB and 512 MB in models with capacity of 256 and 512 GB).

Maximum sequential read speed of Plextor S2 is 520 MB/s, sequential write — 480 MB/s Maximum performance random read and write blocks of size 4 KB are, respectively, 98 000 and 78 000 IOPS.

SSD Plextor S2 will go on sale in mid-October, but their cost is not declared yet.
