Next year, LG Display will supply OLED panels to German car makers
LG Display has partnered with German automakers, including Mercedes Benz, Audi and Volkswagen, hoping to supply them with OLED panel. These panels are used in exterior lighting of vehicles and for interior lighting. Deliveries should begin next year.
Most likely, automotive OLED panels will be produced at the factory P5, located in South Korea. This plant has already started trial operation of equipment of the fifth generation to release OLED lighting panels. The manufacturer expects to begin deliveries after the performance will be increased at least to 15 000 panels per month. This should occur before the end of the year.
While the company LG Display is the only manufacturer to have mastered the serial production of these products. However, in a market that, according to the UBI Research, will grow by 2020 up to 1,619 billion (the figure last year of $ 135 million), has come out with new participants, Panasonic and Osram.
