New purchase Samsung can indicate the company’s desire to create its own messenger
Samsung Electronics has announced the acquisition of NewNet Communication Technologies (NewNet Canada). The transaction amount was not reported.
NewNet Canada, is a leading provider of infrastructure and services in the framework of Rich Communications Services (RCS; Advanced multimedia services). RCS are certain standards that enable mobile operators to provide users with advanced capabilities.
Among the main features of the RCS includes an enhanced phonebook, enhanced messaging features, including file transfer, and advanced challenges, including the sharing of multimedia content during a voice or a video call.
Samsung claims that this transaction is a milestone not only for the company but for the entire mobile industry. The Korean giant did not specify what this refers to, limited only superficial explanations. Meanwhile, Techcrunch believes that Samsung may use the acquisition to launch its own messaging service like Apple’s iMessage, WhatsApp and other messengers.
