Named the most popular virtual reality headset on the market

As reported by IDC, the second quarter shipments of headsets, augmented and virtual reality has grown on 25,5% in comparison with the same period last year and amounted to 2.1 million devices. This does not include simple accessories like Google Cardboard.

Although deliveries decreased in comparison with the first quarter of this year, analysts predict a successful holiday season for this product category.

On headset virtual reality had 98% of sales. Helmets that connect to a computer by wire, was 43% (last quarter was 34%). More than half headsets require a smartphone to work.

The market leader remains Samsung Electronics, which sold 568 thousand Gear VR headsets, occupying 26.7% of the market in the second quarter. This was facilitated by the new smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. Second place went to the PlayStation VR with a share of 24.4%, the third is the Oculus Rift, which owns 11.6 percent. Fourth place went to VR helmet Alcatel (TCL), which bought more than 106 thousand people in the second quarter (5% of the market).

Helmet HTC Vive with a score of 94.5 thousand units occupied 4.4% of the market and fifth place.
