MediaTek introduced the SoC MT8516 designed for devices built around voice assistants

The company MediaTek has introduced a new full featured chipset, designed for devices based voice assistants including Google Assistant. That is, for a variety of smart speakers and home assistance.

In addition, SoC MT8516, namely the so-called new, suitable for

devices segment of the Internet of things requires a powerful processor.

Based MT8516 lies a Quad-core CPU Cortex-A35, operating at frequencies up to 1.3 GHz. SoC also offers adapters, wireless interfaces, but data on GPU is not. Perhaps the graphics core in this single-chip system does not.

To connect microphones and speakers new SOC has an interface with support for TDM (up to eight channels) and PDM inputs (two channels). Also, the manufacturer allocates flexible support of RAM that allows to use LPDDR2, LPDDR3, DDR3, DDR3L, and DDR4.

The first device with SoC MT8516 supporting Google Assistant should be on the market in the fourth quarter of this year.
