In the next quarter of a 300 mm silicon wafers will grow by 10-20%
According to representatives of the industry, which refers to a source of 300-millimeter silicon wafers used to produce semiconductor products, in the first quarter of 2017 will rise by 10-20%. About the suppliers of the plates has notified the manufacturers of semiconductor products, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), United Microelectronics (UMC) and Micron Technology.
Contract prices increase suppliers such as Shin-Etsu Chemical, Sumco and Siltronic. The basis for the increase was the lack of plates. As stated, demand so exceeded supply that the company Siltronic, for example, has started shipping the plates from the reserve.
Company TSMC, the procuring of a plate in large quantities, often receive significant discounts. In the next quarter it will not be able to count on it, say industry sources.
It is expected that the demand for 300-mm plates in the coming years will continue to grow due to the rapid expansion of chip production. On the other hand, the increase in supply of plates is projected at only 2% per year.
