In Japan began testing a «hybrid solar panel», producing electricity and warm water

Japanese organization NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) and the company Nisshinbo Mechatronics has announced the development of «thermoelectric hybrid solar panel». Moreover, the partners have already started testing.

A hybrid panel produces electricity and warm water. The effectiveness of the use of solar energy reaches to 15.5% and 62.5%, respectively.

The test installation consists of 140 panels. Electric power single panel — 160 watts. The panel consists of 36 cells made of monocrystalline silicon. For heating water used polyethylene pipe with a length of 40 m laid in a spiral under the panel. Pipe has a special coating converts the wavelength, which shifts the infrared radiation of solar spectrum radiation in the far infrared region, it is easier absorbed by the water.

The test, designed to assess the reliability and efficiency of panels will continue until February 2017. Meanwhile, the developers will try to reduce the cost of production of the panels to accelerate the commercialization of the development.
