IC Insights noted significant reduction in mergers and acquisitions in the semiconductor industry

Analysts IC Insights has studied mergers and acquisitions undertaken by companies in the semiconductor industry over the past half year, and came to the conclusion that the situation with these transactions has changed markedly.

Over the past two years the industry has experienced a boom in mergers and acquisitions, sometimes very large. For example, in the first half of 2015, these transactions were concluded in the amount of 72.6 billion dollars, and for the whole year was a record — 107,3 billion. In the first half of 2016, the amount was substantially less than $ 4.6 billion, but the conclusion of several major transactions in the third quarter led to the fact that the amount for the year approached $ 100 billion.

The score of the first half of 2017 — 1.4 billion dollars. According to unofficial information, this semester you can expect some significant trades, but even in this case, the result for the year as a whole barely approaches the results of the 2016 and 2015.

Analysts specify, that take into account only transactions in which both companies belong to the semiconductor industry. Such purchase, as the acquisition by the company of Intel company Mobileye over 15.3 billion dollars in consideration are not included.
