Goertek chose SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 for reference design of the gear VR headset
MWC 2017 has become a place of the announcement of many new products in the category virtual reality devices, which is not surprising, given the prognosis of IDC.
The company Goertek brought to Barcelona is the second generation reference platform for VR headsets. It is based on SOC Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The transition from the Snapdragon 820 SoC used in the platform of the first generation, provided the increase of productivity by 30% and allowed to implement extra features gesture control. Allegedly, the delay in the processing of motion in an average of only 18 MS. Being self-sufficient, the platform includes a variety of sensors, including an array of microphones and two cameras. As for the image, its resolution is 1440 x 1440 for each eye, and the field angle is 100°. According to Goertek, the presence of the reference design will help OEMs to accelerate the development of VR headsets.
