«Gigabit» Tesla began production of the batteries
The company Tesla Motors announced the beginning of serial production of Li-ion battery cells at the factory, Gigafactory being built in Nevada in conjunction with the company Panasonic.
The first factory produce cylindrical cells 2170, jointly developed by Tesla and Panasonic. They will be used in domestic batteries and the Tesla Model 3.
The first time «gigaparts» will produce cells for the home and office battery Powerwall 2 and Powerpack 2. The production of batteries for electric cars Model 3 should begin in the second quarter.
In 2018, the plant will produce lithium-ion cells with a total capacity of 35 GW∙h, and the output at full capacity is planned for 2020. By the time the factory will employ 6500 workers.
