For the year, sales of Ethernet switches grew by 3.3%, of routers is reduced by 3.7%

The IDC has summed up the results of the first quarter of 2017, the market of switches and routers in an Ethernet (Layer 2/3). According to their calculations, the year sales of Ethernet switches grew by 3.3%, amounting in the first quarter of 5.66 billion dollars. Sales of routers for the year decreased by 3.7%, to 3.35 billion dollars.

Analysts say that sales of 10 GbE switches (Layer 2/3) decreased by 1.6% to 1.98 billion dollars, but if you count the total number of ports in devices shipped during the quarter, it turns out that it increased to 10.7 ml units or 23.9%. In the segment of 40 GbE sales amounted to 609,5 million dollars, which is 7.2% lower than a year ago. The number of ports in this segment recorded a decrease of 21.9%, up 1.3 million units. In place of the engine market switches 100 Gb — in this segment there is growth in monetary terms 323,5% and the number of ports on 776,4%. Sales of 1 GbE switches conductive the year decreased by 0.5%, and the number of ports in this segment recorded an increase of 11.0%.

The largest supplier of Ethernet switches, which occupies 55.1 per cent of the market, is the company Cisco. However, a year ago, its share was equal to 59.0 per cent. Second place goes to Huawei with 6.3%. The top five also includes companies HP, Arista and Juniper, the share of which is equal to a 6.0%, 5.1% and 4.3% respectively.
