Fast Pair — new technology for quick pairing of Bluetooth devices with smartphones

Google has introduced a new technology for quick pairing of Bluetooth devices with smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later OS versions. This requires updating Google Play services to version 11.7.


At the moment, the technology called Fast Pair supported Google Pixel wireless headphones Buds and Libratone Q Adapt On-Ear. In the near future support will be added in the headset Plantronics Voyager 8200.


Fast Pair uses Bluetooth Low Energy to detect compatible devices, then activates a conventional Bluetooth pairing. Mode Fast Pair with a compatible device and a Bluetooth enabled smartphone users will receive a notification that the device with the proposal to pair with it. If the headset has a companion app in Google Play, the user the next step will prompt you to download it.
