External drive Pholio — offline alternative to Google Photos
On the website KickStarter started fundraising to release an external drive Pholio. The creators of this device have addressed it to those who is not eager to entrust the storage of their images of cloud services, but would like to see similar functionality of Google Photos in the local store.
Being connected to a PC, tablet or smartphone, Pholio automatically searches their memory of the pictures and videos, creating a backup in their original size or in the form of «optimized» (shrunk) options source file. In the second case, at the same time retained a link to the original.
Found images are automatically cataloged with the use of artificial intelligence algorithms. The initial database includes 20,000 descriptors that files marked for fast searching, grouping and sorting. With training, you can add new keywords. The face recognition function allows to find pictures with a certain person on them and make them albums. Moreover, the firmware Pholio can choose suitable snapshots from videos. In the future, the developers intend to expand the backup functionality and add encryption.
Equipment dimensions 195 x 235 x 60 mm includes USB ports, Ethernet, and SD slot and Wi-Fi interface.
The drive is offered in two options — 500 GB and 2 TB. The first can be reserved for about $260. If the project will be able to Fund, its authors promise to start shipping ready drives in January next year.
