Experts Yole Developpement has prepared a report on the state of the market of image sensors. Part of the report devoted to the results of 2016.

Reportedly, this market in 2016 in monetary terms amounted to 11.6 billion dollars. For comparison: in 2015, the volume of the market was equal to 10.3 billion dollars.

The key segment is the sensor type CMOS for mobile devices. Even in conditions of saturation of the smartphone market average annual sales growth of the respective image sensors in the period from 2016 to 2022 is expected to reach 10.5 per cent. This is due to the introduction of dual cameras.

The market leader is Sony, whose share at the end of 2016 amounted to 42%. In second place is Samsung with 18%, the third — Omnivision with 12%.

Among the major trends industry analysts have identified the transition to three-dimensional layout of the sensors. Having this technology provides a key competitive advantage.
