EOSRL taken for the development of displays, micro-LED in collaboration with PlayNitride, Macroblock and Unimicron

The division of Electronic and Optoelectronic System Research Laboratories (EOSRL) Institute Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) have agreed to cooperate with the company PlayNitride developing technology micro-LED, a Macroblock company, which produces chip led drivers, and PCB manufacturer, Unimicron Technology. Together, the partners intend to develop displays, micro-LED with a small step pixels.

It is expected that the samples of the large panels, designed for tiled video wall indoor will be ready in the first half of 2018, and trial production should begin in the second half.

The objectives of the project are as follows: Mcroblock developing the chip supply, PlayNitride — fabrication technology micro-LED without a sapphire substrate, Unimicron printed circuit Board, and EOSRL technology transfer micro-LED on these printed circuit boards.

Have PlayNitride ready-made plate with micro-LED of one color of the RGB triad. Two-tone, the company expects to handle up to the end of the year. Designed specifically for displays, micro-LED chip Macroblock MB15359 can control 512 pixels. In addition, it is able to detect the pixels that took the wrong position in the process of transfer from the substrate to the PCB. It is expected that this capability will improve the quality of the displays.
