Daimler will build in Germany a new factory for the production of automotive batteries

Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz, plans to build a new plant for the production of batteries for electric vehicles. The factory will be located near existing company facilities in the city of Kamenz.

Daimler did not give any forecasts concerning the volume of output of the new factory, but noted that investments of more than $ 1 billion dollars allocated for the construction of the plant, four times to increase the area of production and logistics facility in Kamenz.

In the end, the total area of the factories will amount to approximately 80,000 m2, and by 2020 at factories will employ more than 1000 employees. The construction of the new facility is scheduled for completion next year.

According to some reports, the factory in Kamenz will become the largest manufacturing plant of lithium-ion batteries in Europe. Interestingly that in assortment Mercedes-Benz, there are practically no electric vehicles. However, at last year’s motor show in Paris, the company introduced a new brand called Mercedes-EQ and showed the first model: crossover Generation EQ.
