Controller Silicon Motion SM2262 SSD supports PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.3, five channels of NAND and cache DDR4

The company Silicon Motion has shown at Computex 2017 SM2262 controller designed for solid-state drives. Serial production of this product, supporting PCIe 3.0 x4 and NVMe 1.3, should begin in the third quarter of 2017.

The controller supports five channels of NAND flash memory including memory 3D NAND. As cache you can use the DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR3, DDR4. Controller delivers transfer speeds sequential read up to 3200 MB/s, sequential write up to 1700 MB/s. Performance in read mode random access blocks of 4K reaches 370 000 IOPS in recording mode — 300 000 IOPS.

At the same time was shown a four-channel controller SM2263XT that also supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and NVMe 1.3. It is designed for SSD the entry level and is designed to work without a cache DRAM. However, thanks to the Host Memory Buffer (HMB), the controller may request the system exclusive access to the area of main memory for caching, which improves overall performance.

Controller SM2263XT shows the transfer rate sequential read up to 2200 MB/s, sequential write — up to 1500 MB/s. Performance in read mode random access blocks of 4K up to 250 000 IOPS in recording mode — 220 000 IOPS.
