Apple received a patent for an electronic device with a flexible display in the form of a scroll

The U.S. patent office last week granted Apple patent No. 9625948. This patent describes «an electronic device with a retractable display.» The design principle of the retractable displays are shown in the illustrations.

The device consists of two parts connected display. The display is flexible and is rolled into a tube, placed in the body of the device. When expanded, it becomes flat. In other words, the design is reminiscent of ancient scrolls.

For reliability in parallel with the display can unfold its supporting rigid part. Loudspeakers, microphones, cameras, and other components expected to be placed in the lateral parts. When the device is folded, the side pieces can be fastened with each other using magnets.
