Apple Japan was fined $118 million for the first half net profit
According to Reuters, citing Japanese media reports, local division of Apple that deals with iTunes, was fined 118 million dollars for the understatement of profit. Moreover, Apple Japan did not appeal this decision, immediately paying the aforementioned amount.
The fine was determined by the Tokyo tax service (The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau), which found that the Japanese unit Apple sent part of the proceeds from their paid services, at the expense of the Irish units without paying appropriate taxes in Japan. Representatives of the Tokyo tax authorities and Apple has not made official statements.
