Apple filed a patent about hybrid display with quantum dot and OLED

The US patent office published patent application No. 20170221969 filed by Apple. In the application described display technology, which combines quantum dots and organic LEDs.

The advantages of this display its inventors include «pure color» and low power consumption. As stated, the hybrid display can be used in smartphones, tablets, computers and TVs.

Structure of the hybrid display includes pixels composed of subpixels of OLED and QD-LED. It offers a common layer for carriers of positive charge (holes). On top of it in the subpixels of OLED is organic emitting layer, and the subpixels of the QD-LED layer with quantum dots. Following is a General layer for carriers of negative charge (electrons) and above it the upper electrode.

About the time of appearance of the development in serial production no data.
