AMD acquires intellectual property Nitero in the field of «wireless virtual reality»

AMD has announced the acquisition of «intellectual property and key engineering talent,» the company Nitero, named a pioneer in solutions for augmented and virtual reality, operating in the millimeter range. As stated, the acquisition will enable AMD to expand the collection of relevant intellectual property. AMD called the purchase part of a long-term investment in technology.

The company Nitero has developed a chip to control the phase antenna array, operating in the millimeter range (60 GHz). Through beamforming, it allows to overcome some of the difficulties faced by the creators of the headsets. In particular, we are talking about transferring with high speed and low latency. Wireless technology provides freedom of movement of a user, eliminating one of the obstacles to virtual reality with full immersion.
