Again, not Apple. Analysts called the leader of the smartphone market by 2016
Experts of the analytical company Gartner has summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2016 and the year as a whole in the smartphone market. According to their calculations, over a quarter of the world were sold 431,5 million smartphones, which is 7% higher than in the fourth quarter of 2015.
For the quarter, the largest supplier of smartphones was Apple. For a year she was able to increase sales from 71.5 to 77 million units, bringing its share increased from 17.7% to 17.9%. In second place was Samsung, which has reduced sales of smartphones to 83.4 to 76.8 million units. As a result, the share of South Korean manufacturer declined from 20.7% to 17.8%. Third place for the quarter is Huawei, which increased its sales from 32.1 to 40.8 million, which resulted in increased share from 8.0% to 9.5%. The five largest are also included Oppo (6.2% market share) and Samsung (5.6 percent).
If we consider the year as a whole, the leader is Samsung. It occupies 20.5% of the market. In second place is Apple with 14.4% of the market. Note that shares of both companies declined for the year: in 2015, the share of Samsung was equal to 22,5%, Apple’s market share to 15.9%. The other members of the top five in the annual ranking occupy the same space as in the quarterly. Huawei is equal to the share of 8.9%, Oppo — 5,7%, LG at 4.8%. In 2016, the world was sold 1,495 billion smartphones.
