Advance HEVC allows the use of HEVC codec for free

On the website of the company Advance HEVC dealing with the licensing of the codec HEVC (H. 265) published a press release describing the initiative, designed to promote the dissemination of this video compression standard in the PC and consumer electronic devices. In short, under certain conditions, Advance HEVC allows the use of HEVC codec for free.

License fees are not required if the functionality of HEVC is implemented at the application level of the software loaded into the mobile device or a personal computer after the sale. The encoding or decoding must be done by the software executed by the CPU. Thus, free HEVC codec can be embedded, for example, in a browser or program player.
