IDC analysts have prepared a forecast for the period up to 2020, concerning the market for public cloud services. The weather report said that this year spending on public cloud services reached 122,5 billion, corresponding to growth of 24.4% compared with the year 2016. In the period from 2015 to 2020 at an average annual rate of 21.5%. It is approximately seven times higher than the growth of the information technology industry as a whole. If the IDC forecast will come true, by 2020 the market for public cloud services will be 203,4 billion.

Now the prevailing view is that «software as a service» (SaaS). It accounts for two thirds of the cost. By 2020, the SaaS share will decline slightly, but will still be the highest at 60%. This in particular means that spending on «infrastructure as a service» (IaaS) and «platform as a service» (PaaS) will grow faster than spending on public cloud services in General. Analysts predict growth rates of 30.1% and 32.2%, respectively.
